Frequently Asked Questions
What does a bookkeeper do vs an accountant?
A bookkeeper is your day-to-day partner, right there in the financial trenches, recording every transaction and giving you a clear picture of your business’s finances. They’re always ready to chat when you need them. An accountant, on the other hand, typically checks in once a year to handle your tax return, or maybe twice a year for tax planning. They’re not as available as your bookkeeper, but their expertise comes in when you need the big-picture stuff.
What are the bookkeeping requirements for small businesses?
All businesses must keep accurate financial records for at least 5 years. You can do this as simply as paper and pen, or an excel spreadsheet, however this is time consuming, especially as your business grows. It is much easier to do this using accounting software such as Xero, which is what we use here at The Good Books.
Can you teach me to do my own bookkeeping?
Yes! We provide 1-one-1 Xero training if you’re not yet ready to take the leap to outsource your bookkeeping. We charge $150 + GST per hour for training. Just send us an enquiry and let us know you’d like Xero training.
I’m ready to hire a bookkeeper. How do I start?
Fill in an enquiry and we will be in touch with the next steps.
Still not sure which package to choose? Fill out an application and we can recommend what’s the best fit for your business.
Our services don’t stop when your books are up to scratch, we also offer add-ons such as end-to-end payroll, reporting, budgeting & forecasting, Xero training and setup, BAS lodgements (not in a package) and more.
